How To Choose A Private School

Ask Your Children and Get Them Involved

Sometimes moving to a new school can be frightening to a child.  To help alleviate some of the fear surrounding a transition to a new school talk with your children about their needs and wants from their new school. This information will be helpful for you as you are interviewing potential schools.

Make A List and Narrow It Down

Choose 10 to 15 schools that address the needs of your child.  Keep in mind after school activities, curriculum, and special courses that you are looking for.  Brochures, websites, and videos can all help you narrow your list down.

The Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS) hosts an annual school fair that allows families to meet admissions officers and obtain information about each school.  Check their website, Atlantaprivateschools.com to find dates for the annual school fair.

Be Sure To Tour

The brochures, videos, and websites that the schools provide can only supply you with a limit scope of the school.  Be sure to schedule a tour at your top three to five schools to help you make the best decision.

Stop, Evaluate, and Decide

After touring your top three to five schools stop and look at the notes you took on the tour and reflect on the atmosphere of each school.  Talk with your child and ask for their insight on each school.  Be sure to pick the school that best fits your family’s needs.

Admissions Process

With so many top rated Atlanta Private schools you may find competition in having your child accepted to your top pick.  It may be helpful with this level of competition  to apply at your second choice school.  Be sure to have all of your child’s academic records and letters of recommendation on hand.  It is also helpful to have their medical information and immunizations up to date at the time of application.
