Lithonia

Lithonia is located in DeKalb County close to the well-known landmark, Stone Mountain.  This city is small in size- only .8 square miles, but it has a deep history.  The city’s name is derived from the Greek words for “rock” and “place” due to the large amount of granite that can be found here.  The city is the center for the Georgian granite quarrying region. Outcrops of granite can be seen easily as well as numerous stone walls and borders which have been constructed over the years.

 

Lithonia is also home to Stonecrest Mall as well as other numerous surrounding stores and well known chain restaurants.  Lithonia residents attend DeKalb County schools and have the use of the public transportation system, MARTA via buses.
